We use technology to make our brains even stronger: | We grow our brains by doing things we have not done before. We read new words, write new sentences, solve new math problems, and explore stuff we never heard of; and every time we do this, our brain gets stronger. Isn't that awesome? But people are growing their brains more than ever by using the internet, apps, smartphones, and computers; we call these tools technology. Almost everyone in America uses technology every day to do more in their lives. It is very important that you learn how to use these tools too. You will be able to do more and learn faster than ever using technology. That is why you will be using a tablet computer to use the internet and apps today to do activities that will help you make your brain stronger. You will also use this technology to work with a classmate or in small groups to do activities where you will help each other grow your brains. And we will use our Smart Board to do activities that will help us exercise our brains together. |
A note to parents: | There is overwhelming evidence suggesting that appropriate applications of technology in the K-12 educational settings will not only lead to improved student achievement, but will also increase student engagement and student self-esteem. Education specialists report:
With the above in mind, I will strive to maintain a classroom that fully integrates educational technology tools aligned with established learning objectives. While every student will use a tablet computer to complete engaging daily activities that move toward mastery of California Common Core State Standards; students will also read books, write with pens and pencils, talk to one another, complete art projects using paints and other tangible materials, to name but a few traditional instructional methods. As I am also a "learner" in our classroom, I welcome your questions and suggestions regarding our use of technology tools or other instructional strategies. Click here for my Contact Page.
